Meadow Lake, SK
The Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) is committed to moving to a renewable energy economy for First Nations people. We wish to ensure we are advancing in a manner that is sustainable and exhibits strong stewardship over the use of renewable resources. The lands and water we cherish must remain intact so that our children can experience the traditional Indigenous lifestyle we have valued since time immemorial.
The financial benefits from the project will flow directly back to the nine MLTC First Nations member communities. Revenue earned will support underfunded core programs and service needs (health, education, housing, etc.) of the MLTC First Nations membership as well as lead the way in teaching about renewable energy use in our home communities and visioning for new opportunities and developments.

What Is It?
The MLTC Solar Farm will consist of a 816kW AC power generation system that is fueled 100% by sunlight. The ultimate renewable free energy source. The source is accessed by solar photovoltaic (PV) technology which is a green, sustainable and low maintenance way to produce electricity. Solar panels are comprised of photovoltaic cells that capture photons from sunlight and convert them into direct current (DC) electricity. The MLTC Solar Farm is expected to produce about 1.6 million kW-hrs. of electricity per year.
What Can Solar Do?
1.6 million kW-hrs. of renewable solar energy produced by the MLTC Solar Farm is enough energy to power 154 homes for an entire year. That is 154 homes powered from renewable energy rather than non-renewable resources like oil and gas.
The MLTC Solar Farm offers a way for our First Nations communities to participate in renewable energy without installing panels on their own roofs.
Why Have We Chosen Renewable Energy?
Revenues from the Solar Farm will be returned to the member communities to support essential programs and services including children, elders, families, education, and health and youth development for the nine member-First Nations comprising the Meadow Lake Tribal Council.
816kWs of power from solar will eliminate 616 tons of carbon emissions each year. The equivalent of planting 15,400 trees annually. MLTC is committed to sustainability and operating responsibly by choosing renewable energy.
Protecting Mother Earth is our goal!
