TransGas
Prud’homme Gas Caverns
What are they:
TransGas uses underground storage facilities that are located in depleted underground gas fields or solution-mined salt caverns to store excess natural gas until it is called for. The diverse nature of the underground storage facilities provides a traditionally reliable and safe storage service. It is here where a partnership and long-term agreement for lease of these storage facilities was entered into with MLTC. TransGas uses two gas cavern storage facilities belonging to MLTC at Prud’homme. In addition to the facilities at Prud’homme, TransGas operates several storage locations across the province of Saskatchewan conveniently near gas fields, major demand areas and border points.
How Does it Work:
TransGas offers its clients a storage service with flexibility to meet the needs of its customers. Its customers purchase natural gas during the summer months at better prices and make use of these facilities. Gas is injected into the caverns on behalf of customers in the summer months when call for gas is low. Gas is withdrawn from the storage by customers over the winter, particularity during extended cold snaps when the pipeline system is nearing supply capacity.
How Do MLTC Communities Benefit from the opportunity:
MLTC communities benefit from the rental fees received for use of these facilities.
